Hillside Yurt Between Meadow and Forest

Bussière-Galant, France

La Goursaline invites you into their always-evolving living landscape shaped around permaculture, hospitality, and a slower way of living.

Nested on a hillside surrounded by meadow views, woodlands, birdsong, and sunsets, lies their yurt, as one of the four Gites scattered across their land. Each of them comes with its own cosy wood-fired stove and a private patch of outdoor space.

Set at the edge of the forest, the yurt offers a sheltered, cool, and calming place to unwind in nature, surrounded by farmlife and wildlife from big to small.
When it rains, the drops softly drum on the canvas and lull you to sleep.
On clear days, the skylight fills the space with natural light and a warm, peaceful atmosphere.
There are two double beds (160 x 200 cm): one set on a raised platform, and one on wheels that can slide underneath during the day to create more space. Ideal for families, friends, or two couples.

Regenerative immersion is never far away. It begins with rest: stay, breathe, walk, stargaze, swim nearby, soak in the wood-fired tub, join a music night, or treat yourself to a massage.
Home-grown vegetables, wood-fired pizza, and other local delights become gentle entry points into a deeper story, revealing how each element, in its own way, is intentionally rooted in regional social and ecological restoration.

Appealed to combine your stay with an even deeper learning experience? Dive into the interconnectedness of the farm with a half-day introduction into permaculture led by one of your hosts!

All in all, this habitat will feel especially at home to:
- Nature-loving romantics, from individuals to families, looking for an authentic stay
- Homestead curious visitors to experience what the alternative could look like
- eco-conscious travelers who want substance over polished commercial offerings

And anyone who feels remotely alike!

If you were to pitch the story of Olivia and David to a publisher, they’d reject it for being a little too evocative. That’s the fairytale you step into when visiting this habitat.

Swiss ex-hospitality and ex-private banking leaving their old lives behind to live the homesteading life in the French countryside.

I mean.. Come on..

However, beyond the romance, La Ferme de la Goursaline tells a much truer story of resilience and regeneration.

Since 2019, Olivia and David have grown into a deepening relationship with the land, its seasons, and the surrounding community. One that is responsive to change, attentive to disturbance, and always willing to keep experimenting with soil, water, food systems, rotating animals, and the reciprocal use of what both the land and their wider community can offer.

On their 3.3-hectare hillside, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, animals, chestnut woodland, and unusual gîtes are not isolated features, but come together in symbiosis. Over the years of care and devotion, they have cultivated a place where hospitality, biodiversity, food production, and ecological learning are all entangled intentionally: From the forest providing for the wood-heated gîtes to the careful use of borehole water that finds its way back into the landscape.
And with every iteration, they seem to create gentle openings for others, local and foreign, into other ways of living. Not by preaching it, but by making it quietly experienceable.
